Notes for Esquire George LEITH Of Barnes
Henry Leith of Barnes had:

George of Barnes;

William of Edingarroch, ancestor of Leith of Leith-hall;
Patrick, first of Harthill; and
another son, ancestor of Leith of Montgarrie.

Henry died before 1479; his widow, Elizabeth Gordon, in 1505, resigned certain rights over Pittodrie and part of Pitscurrie.

George Leith of Barnes

In 1505, he is mentioned as being present at the inquest of John, Lord Glammis; also in a deed of Lord Erskine, &c., he is a witness

He married, and had issue:

1. John Leith, his successor
2. William, who succeeded his brother John.
3. Elizabeth, married ... to John Forbes of Towie, who had a crown charter of a part of Barnes in 1550.
4. Janet, married to Alexander Seton of Meldrum, and secondly, to Alexander Gordon of Abergeldie.

George Leith of Barnes died before 1506, ... he was succeeded by his eldest son.

This begins the seventh generation starting with Henry Leith’s first son George Leith who was born in Barnes and died in 1505 .

We have no mention of whom he married but he had Four children.

George Leith, Esq.
, ... possessed many other lands besides those of Barnis. He had two daus., viz.

Elizabeth, m. to John Forbes of Towie
Janet, m. 1st to Alexander Seton, of Meldrum, and 2ndly to Sir Alexander Gordon, of Abergeldie.

Between his two daus., George Leith, at his decease in 1505, divided the lands of Barnis &c., but the representation of the family devolved upon his brother, William Leith, esq. of Edingarrock.
