Notes for Esq. James FORBES Of Kingerloch & Hutton Hall

First Lieutenant Forbes was the youngest son of John of Inverernan and Glenconry
, Commissioner of Supply for Aberdeenshire, who had been “out in the ‘15,” taken prisoner and died of his wounds in Carlisle prison. This officer received an appointment in 1756 as Lieutenant in the 60th Regiment and was promoted to the be Captain-Lieutenant in 1757. He was killed at Ticonderoga July 8, 1757.

He had married Isabel, daughter of Donaldson of Kinardie, and had an only son and heir James of Kingerloch in Argyleshire and of Hutton Hall, Essex. This family of Forbes of Kingerloch is descended from the youngest son of Sir John Forbes, 5th Laird of Drumminer, brother of the 1st Lord Forbes.

Maria-Isabella, m., to Col. David Forbes, of the 78th regt., and
Charlotte, m. to Gen. Sir Charles Bruce, K.C.B.

He m. 2ndly, 24 Sep 1799, Miss Sarah Richardson, and had by her,

1. James, his heir;
2. Charles Henry, successor to his brother...
3. Alexander, E.I.Co’s Civil Service, Bengal;
4. William, an officer in the 77th regt.;
5 John, deceased;

i. Eliza;
ii. Isabel, m. to Albert Watson, Esq., of Ceylon Rifle Brigade;
iii. Emma, m. to the Rev. Arthur Thomas Gregory, of the co. Banff’
iv. Annie;
v. Sarah; and
vi. Emily.

The eldest son and heir, James Forbes Esq. of Kingerloch, survived his father only twenty months, and was s. by his next brother, ... Charles Henry Forbes, Esq of Kingerloch.
