Looking for the ancestors and siblings of Homer Delamater, born 12/11/1856 NY. He married Ellen S. Chisholm 1882, Manitoba.

After an interview with a Mrs. Coo, a niece to Homer's mother who knew Homer as a boy, a family member, Iva Delamater, writes that both of Homer's parents died while he was very young. His father, whom some think was named Edward/Edgar was a bookkeeper of some sort and was badly burned in an attempt to save some records. One story that seems to originate out of Canada is that the father was a sea Captain. Some say he had two sons by his first marriage; that for a time were bankers in New York but then moved to Lake Huron to farm. Homer Delamater was the only child of the second marriage. After his mother Winifred Frost Theobold died, a woman who worked for the family cared for him. After his father died, the woman abandoned the child. Family members believe it was because the money from the estate did not come through.

When his grandfather Theobald got wind of this, he went to New York and brought Homer, age 8/9, to Ontario where Homer was raised by another family member, James McPherson.
