UPALCO PIONEER PASSES TO BEYOND AFTER LONG ILLNESS
(From Upalco Correspondent) [1925]

Ephriam Marrett quietly passed away at his home April 1, after a seven years’ illness and was buried in the Upalco cemetery April 3. Funeral services were held in the Upalco ward house at 1 p.m. Friday, Bishop E.B. Murphy presiding. The following songs were rendered by a mixed chorus, “Consolation,” “Wanted on the Other Side” and “We Shall Meet Beyond the river.” The opening prayer was offered by Geo. Carrell and benediction by Ambrose Mitchell. the speakers were Geo. F. Potts of Upalco, Joseph Lambert of Roosevelt, John Benson of Ioka, Leslie Murphy and E.B. Murphy of Upalco.

The deceased was born at Pleasant Grove, Utah, June 27, 1858. He is survived by his widow, Rebecca C. Lambert Marrett and eleven children, all living: Mrs. Millie J. Brown, Nayssa, Oregon; Mrs. Vernetta Mitchell, Mrs. Agnes Mitchell, Marvell, and Mrs. Martha Mitchell, Mrs. Alice Murphy, Sterling L., William R., Fontella, Anona and Wanda, all of Upalco. He also has thirty-six grandchildren and one great grandchild, twenty-nine of whom are living.

Mr. Marrett married Rebecca C. Lambert in 1885 at Kamas, Utah, where they lived until 1897, when they moved to Vernal, living there until the opening of the Reservation where he moved in 1907. He was one of the earliest settlers of this part of the Reservation. He dug the first well and helped build the first canals and witnessed all the trials of pioneer life.

He was an active worker in the LDS church until seven years ago when he was stricken with paralysis which rendered him helpless. He has been a patient sufferer and was loved and respected by all who knew him. All the community extends their sympathy to the bereaved family.
